How to Write a Standout CV for a Role in Telecoms

If you’re applying for a job in telecoms, your CV is your ticket through the door and in such a competitive, fast-paced industry, it needs to work hard.
Whether you’re a network engineer, field technician, delivery coordinator or project manager, your CV should showcase the value you bring, the skills you’ve built, and the impact you’ve had. But don’t worry, we’ve broken it down into key sections that hiring managers want to see, plus tips to help you stand out for the right reasons.
Start With the Essentials
Before diving into the detail, make sure your CV includes the basics:
Full name
Professional email address
Contact number
City/region (especially helpful if you’re applying for location-based work)
Top tip: Make sure your voicemail greeting is professional, first impressions count.
Write a Strong Summary
Your professional summary should be a snapshot of who you are, what you bring to the table, and the kind of roles you’re looking for. Keep it to 2–3 sentences and tailor it to the type of job you’re applying for.
Example:
“Experienced field engineer with 7+ years in fibre and wireless rollout. Skilled in troubleshooting, team supervision, and working to tight deadlines. Passionate about delivering reliable, scalable connectivity for customers.”
Focus on Results in Your Work History
Your job titles and companies give context, but your achievements are what matter. Highlight the outcomes you delivered, using bullet points to keep things readable.
Instead of this:
Installed fibre across multiple sites
Say this:Delivered 50+ fibre installs across London within 3 months, with 100% SLA compliance
Include:
Job title, company name, dates
Key responsibilities and wins
Tech stack, tools, and project types you worked on
Show Off Your Skills
Telecoms roles require a blend of technical knowledge and soft skills. Create a section to list the skills that are most relevant to the role you’re applying for.
Some key ones include:
Fibre splicing & testing
Network troubleshooting
Field team coordination
Health & safety compliance
Stakeholder communication
Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, GIS (or job-specific tools)
Top tip: Use the job ad as a guide if they’ve listed something you know, make sure it’s on your CV.
Include Relevant Certifications
If you hold any telecoms-specific qualifications or health & safety accreditations, don’t skip them. These add real value and show you’re ready to hit the ground running.
